This lesson explains how different types of products have different requirements. We will discuss ambient, climate-controlled, automated, private, public and bonded warehouses handling the different products, including chilled and frozen perishable goods, as well as non-perishable goods, such as liquids, hazardous goods, dry goods and more.

In this lesson we examine the warehouse requirements for the storage of products in the supply chain. We will discuss distribution centres, centralised vs decentraliced warehousing and explain the benefits of each.

Technology used in a warehouse can influence the speed and accuracy for locating inventory in a warehouse. This lesson covers the different technology tools and how they can be used effectively.

Identifying which storage methodology will best suit the inventory in the warehouse in covered in this lesson. Types of storage methods include fixed, random and zonal, as well as racking, conveyors and binning. The importance of FIFO rules is discussed.

In this lesson we look at short term and long-term warehouse space requirements. This will cover expansion of space. We also ask the question; do we need so much inventory, how can we reduce the volumes?

This lesson covers the basic layout of a warehouse. We examine the positioning of fast-moving goods, bulk storage and picking space to speed up movements. The use of using mezzanine floors is discussed.
